It runs on its battery, and if you wire it, Ring's support page gives it the lowest floor here at 8 VAC and 5 VA. If packages are your worry, the eufy E340 has a second camera aimed at the step and records with no plan. If you live in Google Home and your transformer says 16 V or more, the Nest Doorbell (Wired, 3rd Gen) fits.

Get this if you are not sure about your wiring. It runs on its built-in battery, and if you do wire it, Ring's support page gives battery doorbells the lowest floor here: 8 to 24 VAC and 5 to 40 VA. Skip it if you never want to take a doorbell off the wall. The battery is built in, so the whole unit comes off to recharge by USB-C, and the cable is not in the box. Recordings need a Ring plan.

- Find the transformer and read the label. You want two numbers: volts and VA. See transformer voltage.
- Decide if you care about the wall chime. Some doorbells bypass it. See will my chime still work.
- Look at where the button sits. A button set back in a corner or beside a step may need a wedge. See field of view.
- Check where clips are saved. See local storage vs cloud.
Safety: the transformer is fed by household mains voltage. Turn off the breaker before you touch doorbell wires, and leave replacing or adding a transformer to a licensed electrician. Ring's install pages add that local codes may require a permit or a professional.
