Will a video doorbell work with your wiring?

Answer five questions. The checker compares your transformer label with the lowest and highest numbers on each listing or maker support page, then adds the chime and renter notes for each doorbell.
Doorbell wiring checker
A general check against the voltage, VA and chime notes on each listing and maker support page we read. It is not a promise of fit and not electrical advice. Turn off the breaker before touching wires. A transformer swap is a job for a licensed electrician.
Where to find the numbers
Blink's support page says transformers show their voltage and VA on the unit, and lists the usual spots: near the main electrical panel, inside the chime box, or in the garage or attic. Arlo's support page says the printed voltage is typically accurate, and a multimeter reading is more precise. Look, do not touch. If the label is hidden behind wiring, ask an electrician.

Take the first column. A label of 16 V and 10 VA meets every floor on this site, so all 7 show as fitting. Drop to 10 V and 5 VA and only 1 can be wired: Ring Battery Doorbell 2K. 4 more can go up on battery, and 2 are out. With no wires at all, the 5 battery models work and the 2 wired-only models need an added part.

What the checker does not know
- It does not know if your wires are broken in the wall. A working old button is a good sign.
- It does not know your WiFi signal at the door. Several picks here are 2.4 GHz only.
- Makers change support pages. Read the listing and the manual before you order.
Safety: the transformer is fed by household mains voltage. Turn off the breaker before you touch doorbell wires, and leave replacing or adding a transformer to a licensed electrician. Ring's install pages add that local codes may require a permit or a professional.
